Receiving Holy Communion for the First Time
Every year we celebrate Masses where the children of our Parishes can receive Holy Communion for the first time. Many of the children learn about Holy Communion in their religion classes in school.
But the preparation for the Sacrament takes place in the Parish. Before your child begins first class, you need to register them with the Parish to receive Holy Communion for the first time. It is not taken for granted that because your child attends a Catholic school that they wish to receive the Sacraments.

• You need to give us an email address so the registration form can be sent to you.
• You will need a copy of your child’s baptism cert.
• If your child is not baptised in the Catholic Church you need to make an appointment with the parish.
• Parents are invited to come to an information meeting
• Children with their parents are invited to attend a monthly “Do This in Memory Mass” as part of the preparation programme. (6:00pm Saturday in Christ the King and 11:30am Sunday in Precious Blood)
• We ask you to bring your child to Sunday Mass as often as you can.
• Holy Communion takes place during the Parish Mass on a Sunday, usually between April and June.
• Families will be asked to take part in the prayers and procession during the Mass.
Children who attend a school other than a Catholic School
For the children who attend Broombridge or D7 Educate Together National Schools or other schools that do not teach the “Grow in Love” programme, but live in this Parish, you can celebrate the sacraments here.
You go through the same process outlined in the previous page. There is a Diocesan Programme called “Seeds of Faith” which runs between the
two Parishes. Your child will attend these religion classes in the Parish on a weekly basis and also be part of the Parish Programme of Do This In Memory Masses.
Initially this is a one year programme for Communion for the first time and Confirmation, but will become a two year preparation programme in line with “Grow in Love”. Parents will be asked to pay for these classes. We make every effort to keep costs reasonable.
